Midwest Alliance Internships & Lab Opportunities Participation Requirements

Students who are offered a MIDWEST Internship must agree to:

• Provide a written report of their placement work (and research results, if applicable) within two months after completing the internship/research lab experience.

• Share their experience (and research results, if applicable) at Midwest Alliance events and participate in project evaluation activities.

Eligibility Information

• Students and alumni with disabilities, impairments or conditions that would potentially require academic accommodations are considered eligible. Participants must be willing to verify this information upon request.

• This program is restricted to high school (grades 9-12) and postsecondary (college, technical, professional or university) students and alumni who intend to complete or who have already completed a postsecondary degree in a recognized STEM field.

• Participants must meet one of the following geographic criteria in order to be considered for the program:

  1. Current resident of Wisconsin, Illinois or Iowa (students may be attending postsecondary institutions in other states)
  2. Temporary resident of Wisconsin, Illinois or Iowa (students who are residents of other states, but who attend school in one of these states, for example)
  3. Graduates from postsecondary institutions in Illinois, Wisconsin or Iowa.

• Postsecondary student participants must be in good academic standing, be enrolled in at least six credits/hours in the current or previous semester or term and be able to prove that they are a resident or a student at a postsecondary institution in Wisconsin, Illinois or Iowa at the time of their application.

• All participants must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents.

Stipend Information:

• High school students (including recent graduates) participating in qualified internship placements lasting 40 hours or more, over an eight-week period or longer are eligible to receive stipends of up to $500.

• Postsecondary students participating in qualified internship placements lasting 80 hours or more, over an eight-week period or longer are eligible to receive stipends of up to $1,000.

Our deadline for participation in the intern program for the 2009-2010 school year is April 16, 2010.
