Students

The Midwest Alliance strives to increase the involvement and level of success of students with disabilities completing postsecondary degrees, and entering careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields and programs.

We provide a wide range of learning, enrichment, and funding resources and benefits for postsecondary students and alumni, who participate in our programs.

There are three main ways in which we help students and alumni with disabilities pursue their academic and career goals:

- One-on-One Mentoring Placements
- Internship Searches and Placement Support
- Enrichment Camps, Special Events, and STEM Exploration

Participant Benefits

In addition to receiving stipends and other types of funding, participants will receive individualized training and support throughout the course of their participation with us.

Participants who take part in enrichment-related events and activities will also have expanded  access to learning resources, advice, and help finding tools and skills necessary for academic and career success.

Application Materials and Procedure

Students and alumni wishing to participate in our mentorship and internship sessions for 2009-2010 are being accepted on a rolling basis.   Placements for the summer of 2010 have an application deadline of April 1, 2010.

All high school, postsecondary students, and alumni are able to participate in mentoring and internship opportunities as soon as their applications have been accepted, provided that they meet our eligibility requirements.

Please note:  Taking part in our internship, mentoring, and enrichment opportunities depends on the availability of the placements and may require several weeks to months in order to be identified and arranged.  Acceptance into the Midwest Alliance does not guarantee a placement of any type; rather, acceptance into the Midwest Alliance will guarantee that placements will be sought out on the applicant's behalf and the outcome of that search will be provided to the applicant in a timely manner.

Midwest Alliance Region

Midwest Alliance programs and opportunities focus on the states of Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois. Students and alumni who may participate in our internship and mentoring opportunities include the following:

- Current residents (students may be attending postsecondary institutions in other states)
- Temporary residents (students who are residents of other states, but who attend school in one of these states, for example)
